Character Rigging: Beta

(2025) Autodesk Maya

In my character and creature rigging class, we were tasked with rigging any character model. I took the rigged model "Beta" from the Agora community and reconstructed its rig from scratch.

I was able to create a full-body rig, with IK and FK arms and legs, stretchy torso, and advanced foot controllers (foot roll).

As someone keen in animation, learning the basics of rigs, the terminology, and process is helpful as it would allow me to better understand and communicate with future riggers.

Environment Effects: Ski Slope

(2026) Houdini 20

For the assignment, we were asked to create a character or environment diorama that included at least one effect. I created a ski slope that has a snow cannon to add a fresh layer of powdered snow.

To do this, I used a combination of vellum, heightfields, pop simulations, and VDBs.

This was my first major project in Houdini, and it was very enjoyable - I learned a lot from using a node-based system again and want to continue doing more work in Houdini in the future.

Quadruped Animation

(2026) Autodesk Maya

In my second semester, I had the opportunity to animate a quadruped rig.

I animated a lion walk cycle for my own experiments and to better understand the motion and overall body mechanics before moving onto the assignment. For the assignment, we were tasked with animating a lion sitting down (which is still in progress).

Though it has it's imperfections (foot sliding), I am really happy with this as it was my first attempt at quadruped animation, and a looping cycle.

Second Year Group Project: Great Fire of London

(2025 - 2026) Autodesk Maya, Houdini 21, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Substance Painter

Our major project for second-year was the group project. In my group, we were working on a brief for an external client - who wanted to tell the narrative of the Great Fire of London. I was assigned as lead animator and worked alongside 5 other members.

CONTRIBUTIONS:

In the project, I was responsible for rigging the bat creature. I used Advanced Skeleton to help create the joints and constraints, then I manually weightpainted everything after it was bound.

Then, I handled majority of the bat animation in the film, except for the opening shot. I did a lot of tests and experiments to get the flight and movement of the bat correct.

Lastly, I worked on the effects for the final shot with St. Paul's Cathedral collapsing. With my houdini knowledge, I was able to experiment with rigid body destructions and smoke pyro to create the effect of the overall collapse and sinking roof alongside the smoke of the fire.
